One of the few 27-hole Scottsdale golf resorts in the Phoenix area, the world-class Kierland Golf Club provides a multi-faceted approach to the Arizona golf experience. Fully integrated into The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa, the Kierland Golf Club opened in 1996 and features a par-72, 6,900-yard course with three distinct nine-hole courses and a fully staffed golf facility. The golf course is part of a limited group of courses in Arizona that are recognized by Audubon International's Cooperative Sanctuary Program. At Kierland Golf Club, guests will find a true climate-controlled golf experience, expert instruction led by industry-lauded professionals, a fitness training system guaranteed to increase driving distance while improving overall fitness and stamina, and a custom golf equipment supplier.

The Kierland Golf Club has eight years of successful operation under its belt. With 27 holes, golfers can put together three combinations of 9-hole courses (Acacia, Ironwood and Mesquite, all named after indigenous trees), a system that accommodates many more golfers than the traditional 18-hole golf course.

A $2.5-million remodel in 2002 included strategic placement of new bunkers and more risk/reward opportunity than the course had in the past. The greens are all now Tif-Eagle. In 2004, Kierland re-introduced native plants and high heather grasses. Rolling terrain and frequent elevation changes are landmarks of this favorite Scottsdale course.

The hotel is situated just a five-iron from the first tee, and hotel guests have first priority in scheduling tee times on the course, which is recognized by Audubon International’s Cooperative Sanctuary programs for featuring more than 45 species of wildlife and at least 30 native plant types.Course designer Scott Miller was formerly a senior designer for Jack Nicklaus. Miller helped with renovations to Augusta National, home of The Masters, and he designed the Coeur d’Alene course in Idaho, one of the nation’s premier resorts, among many others.
